CRYSTALS FOR MASSAGE and WELLBEING
Crystal healing is such a diverse field. Crystals, these wonderful, health-giving gifts of our planet, offer so many possibilities for healing that everyone can choose an approach that best suits them.
A very interesting aspect of the field of crystal healing combines the healing effects of crystals with the long standing knowledge of massage therapy, acupressure and bodywork. Crystals are used as tools in the healing work, in the forms of spheres, wands, flat stones called ‘soap-stones’, or simply tumbled stones or even rough stones.
A short excerpt of the book Crystal Massage for Health and Healing (M. Gienger, Earthdancer 2006, p.7) explains this idea a little further:
Crystals and massage? This might seem a strange, even unpleasant, idea at first, because we always think of crystals as being hard, heavy, with rough edges – but you might be surprised at how ‘soft’ crystals can be, how much lightness they can provide us with. Crystal massage combines the advantages of massaging – the intensive tactile contact, and of crystal healing – the harmonious healing properties of crystals. The results are very subtle, and yet convey effective healing properties in various ways.
We can work on various levels – physical, ethereal, mental, spiritual; depending upon how we apply the crystals. The result, in the end, is always holistic, and yet every massage has a different point of access.
To mention just one of the multiple possibilities the crystals give us, here an example of how to use Malachite for crystals massage:
Malachite is particularly good for women, as it relieves cramps and works on menstrual problems. It makes sense to massage intensively with this sphere in the lumbar and sacral bone area for these problems. Malachite brings back memories and therefore helps one realize the cause of existing blockages.
So massage with crystals is a holistic way of accessing and releasing not only bodily problems, but also spiritual pains that are still stored in us.
When it comes to acupressure and reflexology, the expert to ask is Ewald Kliegel. He has many years of experience, and uses crystal wands to intensify and target the effects he wants to achieve for his clients. Here is a short excerpt of his upcoming book, Crystal Wands, to give you an idea of the possibilities:
The story of crystal wands began in 1996 during a conversation in Michael Gienger’s summery garden. We had met that day to discuss ways of making our treatments more effective. On the one hand, we had reflex zone massages, which had been tried and tested for many years, and which had obtained an additional positive quality through the use of crystals. On the other hand, we wanted to use our growing knowledge and experience of those mineral treasures of the Earth more intensely for direct physical contact. At the time, we already had considerable experience with the use of tumbled stones and balls, had applied crystals by laying them on, and had carried out energetic treatments. All of those methods continue to be extremely sought after. However, the new element in all this was the use of crystal wands, a procedure that combines in itself many new departure points.

The round end of the crystal wand can be used almost like a crystal sphere in massage, and the pointed end can be used to target acupressure points or to trace meridian lines. In addition, by means of brief pre-testing procedures, it is also possible to identify a suitable crystal wand for a particular treatment or application. Massages thus become indisputably more effective. Combined efforts over the years have therefore borne fruit. Meanwhile, massages with crystals have a firm place in wellness and therapies, where they are increasingly gaining importance.
