CRYSTAL HEALING
A crystal is frozen music (Pythagoras) – or:
The scientific explanation for the effects of crystals
So how does it come about that pebbles and stones can have a healing effect on us, even though we do not take them internally like other ‘medication’, but only lay them on externally or wear them? The answer is quite simple – crystals radiate! They emit measurable frequencies of radiation in the range of infrared and ultraviolet, as well as of visible light. And although radiation from crystals is of a low intensity, because of its regularity and duration it does have great effect! For comparison, imagine a vibrating guitar string, which can barely be heard in a room, but that sounds beautifully loud through the medium of the guitar’s wooden body. Analogously, the weak radiation of a crystal may at times cause a strong reaction in our organism.
The origin of the radiation
With the exception of radioactive minerals, crystals do not release energy from their own source, but rather convert absorbed light and heat into different radiation. As has been scientifically confirmed, our cell nuclei transmit light impulses, which help cells to communicate with each other and tissues and organs to coordinate (1).
These so-called ‘biophotons’ are apparently influenced by the radiation from crystals. Spontaneous changes in brain function patterns when the crystals are laid on the body clearly demonstrate that there is an influence. (2)
Interestingly, the operative frequencies are based, in turn, on the four basic principles we have been discussing:
1. The basis of the influences are the specific frequencies of the mineral substances contained in the crystals. Each of the chemical elements radiates certain electromagnetic frequencies when it is stimulated, which then together make up the total spectrum according to the chemical composition of the crystal in question.
2. The visible colour of the crystal will naturally also play a part in this, but the colour merely occurs through reflected light and is therefore not identical to the above described ‘own radiation’. For example, not every blue crystal creates exactly the same spectrum of converted energetic radiation.
3. The third factor is the crystal structure, the spatial arrangement of the atoms and molecules, which acts like an antenna. The structure delimits the wave lengths of the radiation according to the gaps and angles between the atoms and molecules in the crystal lattice. In this way they act as a filter, which amplifies certain frequencies and suppresses others. So, the same chemical composition can lead to different electromagnetic radiation in different crystal structures. Based on these antenna effects, it is particularly the crystal structures that are of special significance in crystal healing.
4. Finally, the formation of the crystal also plays a part. The conditions for the formation of a crystal remain stored as information inside it. However, this information is not to be found in the physical dimension, but rather in the etheric dimension, within the energetic body of the crystal. Through radioaesthetic methods such as using a dowsing rod or a pendulum, these kinds of information are identifiable, but they still cannot be measured scientifically. The fact that they nevertheless play an important role in crystal healing has already been explained.

Healing through resonance
When the electromagnetic radiation of a crystal comes into contact with the human organism, it influences the energy flow of the meridians (the energy channels in the body), the activity of the chakras (the energetic body and its centres), the electrically stimulated paths of the nerves, the activity of the hormonal glands (which react to electromagnetic stimulation), and the metabolism of the cells, tissues and organs when the metabolic exchange inside cell membranes is stimulated electromagnetically. So it concerns principally every area, but will only become effective where it contacts similar frequencies (for example, the same mineral substances) or energetic structures as those from which it originates. This phenomenon is called ‘resonance’ (Latin – resonare = ‘echoing’ or ‘reflecting’). It will therefore cause an ‘echo’ within us, where similar substances, particles or structures are able to vibrate or resonate with the frequencies fed in. In this way, however indirectly, it is not just physical, but also the mental and spiritual areas that are stimulated.
Similar vibrations (resonances) and rhythms have a mutual influence on each other, as the Dutch scientist, Christian Huygens, discovered as early as 1665. He discovered that two clocks standing or laying next to each other would, within a very short space of time, run completely synchronistically. The secret of this was ‘tuning in’. If the sources of two similar rhythms, vibrations or frequencies are in immediate spatial proximity to one another, they will always end up ‘swinging in unison’. Swinging or vibrating in unison apparently uses less energy and is perceived as more harmonious than maintaining a contrary rhythm. As the frequency of crystals is very consistent both in regularity and duration, we vibrate in unison with the crystal when it is carried or worn on the body. A crystal is therefore really ‘frozen music’, as Pythagoras said, and we are the listeners of its unchanging melody; we listen to it and feel the effects of its ‘music’. Or, to put it a different way, as the crystal stubbornly retains its rhythm, we have to adapt to it – the wiser one always gives in.
The healing effect is created through the persistency and the regularity of the crystal. Chaotic, confused frequencies in us can be harmonized through tuning in to the same rhythm as the crystal. In us, too, vibrations and rhythms that are harmoniously tuned to each other require less energy to be maintained than irregular or mixed ones.
Just as a whole orchestra can be dominated by a constant flute melody, the entire symphony of our organism can be tuned in to the sound of a crystal. Thus one should not underestimate the effect of crystals.
We recommend carefully selecting crystals, as their influence will only become a healing effect if it matches us – that is, matches our spiritual intentions, and those mental and physical endeavours in which we engage to realize those intentions.
For crystal healing, a comprehensive knowledge of the crystals, minerals and rocks used is of great value. Only when one can comprehensively understand the nature of a crystal in its formation, its appearance and its effects, can one employ its entire potential for healing applications.
